Master Plan and Capital Projects

From the August 25, 2017, email sent out to membership –

As previously announced, the agenda for the Annual Meeting, to be held at the club on August 27th at 2 p.m., includes a presentation and discussion of the Master Plan. Bob Coates, Strategic Planning Director, will provide a comprehensive update on the Master Planning Project.  To facilitate this discussion, information regarding this plan is now available for your review:

Master Plan August 2017 Update

The application to amend our previously approved special use permit was submitted to the Fairfax County Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) on December 15, 2015 and unanimously approved on November 30, 2016.  In its approval, the BZA noted, among other items:

  • The application received a favorable staff recommendation that the BZA adopted.
  • The updates listed in the application are logical updates to an existing recreational facility that is obsolete, and the upgrades will help bring up to current standards.
  • The McLean Citizens Association supported the application.
  • The club has been operating for many years without any significant conflict with the neighbors.

Jamie Reuter is to be congratulated for all his hard work and dedication to our Club to shepherd the BZA application through the review process and to approval.  Mike Moriarty is also to be recognized for pulling together the materials and making the presentation to the McLean Citizens Association that garnered that groups very important support as noted above.  Bob Coates has led the SPC since last fall, jumped in and added value right away by carefully reviewing the development conditions and proposing significant changes, all of which were incorporated in the approved application.  The Strategic Planning Committee members – Rona Ramsey, Erin Shaffer, Stuart Hamilton, Paul Hedrick, Mike Moriarty, Mike Colson, Trisha Downey, Dan Valencic, Amy Call-Well, Maureen Caughran, Jen Mallard – all deserve kudos and thanks for their dedication, diligence and continuous participation over the past 3 years.

In 2017, our work continued. We performed further requirements gathering and analysis; issued a request for proposals for a general contractor, engineers, land surveyor, and architect; and selected and finalized agreements with the general contractor, engineer, land surveyor, and architect.  We are finalizing the site plan for submission this fall to Fairfax County for their approval by summer 2018.  Bob will continue to lead the SPC as we move forward in 2017 -2018.
