  1. 2019 Registration Date for Potential New Members

Please tell your friends and neighbors who are interested in joining the club that registration to get on the wait list to obtain summer use privileges at CST will take place Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 12 p.m.  IF YOU HAD SUMMER PRIVILEGES FROM 2018, YOU RETAIN YOUR POSITION ON THE WAITLIST FOR FULL MEMBERSHIP AND DO NOT NEED TO RE-REGISTER FOR SUMMER USE PRIVILEGES ON THE 12TH. Names of individuals/families who registered but were not offered summer use privileges are not retained for the following year. Applicants who were not offered summer use privileges must reapply the following January. Please note that memberships are only available to individuals or families who reside in Virginia and all living in the same household.

Background: Chesterbrook Swim and Tennis Club offers only one type of membership, a full membership. The Club maintains 550 full memberships. As described in the Bylaws, the Club grants summer use privileges to individuals or families while waiting for full membership (referred to as a Summer Membership); the Club is limited to keeping a waitlist of a maximum of 110 individuals or families. Membership is offered on a rolling basis; as full members request to sell their membership, that “share” is offered to the next family on the waitlist. As that spot on the waitlist opens, another family is offered a spot on the waitlist. Families typically remain on the waitlist anywhere from 1 to 4 years before being offered a full membership. The Membership Director accepts applicants for the waitlist every January up to a total 110 waitlist members.

After conclusion of the lengthy planning and permitting process, we proceeded during the week of October 22 to the demolition phase, as the construction team cleared trees and brush for the location of the two new tennis courts, and it made significant progress in removing the old upper pool. During the week of October 29, we expect to complete demolition of the upper pool and to remove the old baby pool and the pump houses. Read more renovation updates

  3. Club Renovation Begins

After years of planning, our major renovation to replace the upper pool and add two new tennis courts is now underway.  If you have driven past the club recently, you may have noticed the storage units and the chain link fence blocking off much of the parking lot; a construction trailer is also in place. We anticipate significant demolition activities to begin in the very near future. Importantly, all five of our tennis courts are currently accessible for use: parking is somewhat limited, but access to the courts is not obstructed. As construction progresses, we expect interruptions in court access; a schedule of those interruptions will be posted to this website as soon as available. Updates on the renovation will be posted to this site and communicated to the membership via Splash & Smash.

  5. Picking Up & Dropping Off

With so many parents dropping off and picking up at the club, we wanted to send a couple of safety reminders regarding the flow of traffic in the parking lot and on Kirby Rd.

    • The loop in front of the club entrance is NOT a waiting area. No cars should idle or park in the area in front of the club.
    • No vehicle should remain stopped in the loop for longer than 30 seconds. Lingering causes a visibility hazard and increases the risk of children walking around idling cars and into the path of moving ones.
    • Park and walk children into the pool from the parking lot.
      • Younger children, especially, often need additional time getting in and out of vehicles, and cars block the flow of traffic if parents wait for them to get situated.
    • If you are dropping your child off at the tennis courts, please pick up and drop off near the court so they do not have to walk through the busy parking lot.
    • Do not pick up your child on Kirby Rd. This is very dangerous, causes traffic congestion on Kirby, and is absolutely not allowed.

We are all very busy, and occasionally running behind, but we are also modeling behavior that will be reflected in the young drivers we are raising. Please be patient and always put their safety first.

If you see anyone driving dangerously in the parking lot, please don’t hesitate to let us know so it can be addressed.

    Thank you!
